Combining a passion for 3D printing and Pokémon as well as the enjoyment we get out of telling people about said passion led to an easy decision to start a business in this field. Initially hesitant because of the investment costs we we decided to take the leap and booked ourselves some tables at an event unsure of how things would go. It turns out things went so well that straight after getting home we booked another dozen events the same year and have no plans of slowing down!
After finding out I (Marc) had colon cancer in April 2024 and going through chemo, radiation, and eventually surgery in October of the same year and beating the darn thing I decided I needed a change.
Unfortunately I had just started a new job in February of the same year and as much as my boss liked me, he couldn’t keep me on as he had no idea how long I’d be gone and my contract expired in September just before the surgery. Thankfully for me the job I did for the few months I was able to work was working on and with websites, which helped me to build the one you’re looking at now!
Before this job I had been working at an Escape Room and my favourite part of working there was getting to talk to people who had similar passions to me, which in this case was Escape Rooms. The topic doesn’t matter however, and if someone is passionate about something you care for, it’s fun to talk to them either way.
This is what Legendary Layers was ultimately based on, a passion for 3D Printing and Pokémon and wanting to chat with like-minded people at conventions and events. My wife (Doloreitch) may not have to the same history with Pokémon as I do, but she enjoyed our first event as much as I did nonetheless and immediately told me to book more so she can join me again.
We figured if we’re going to make this a proper business we need a proper website as well though, so I put my newfound website making skills to use and this is what became of it. I’m sure there’s improvements to be made, but every day’s a school day and I love to learn more and keep on improving the website and every other aspect of the company.
